Mokyklose galės būti sudaroma mažesnė III ar IV gimnazijos klasė nei buvo numatyta anksčiau. Švietimo, mokslo ir sporto ministerijos siūlymu, Vyriausybė pakoregavo Mokyklų tinklo kūrimo taisykles.
Nuo rugsėjo 1 d. mokyklos galės sudaryti III gimnazijos klasę mažesnę kaip 21 mokinys, jei praeitais mokslo metais toje mokykloje 8 klasėje ir I gimnazijos klasėje buvo ne mažiau kaip po 21 mokinį arba 8, I gimnazijos ir II gimnazijos klasėse besimokančių mokinių skaičiaus vidurkis buvo ne mažesnis kaip 21 mokinys. Mažiausias leidžiamas mokinių skaičius – 12. Numatyta, kad mažesnės klasės turės būti finansuojamos iš mokyklų steigėjų savivaldybių biudžetų.
„Manau visi sutinkame, kad ugdymo kokybė yra labai svarbu, taip pat svarbu, kad mokiniai turėtų plačias galimybes rinktis dalykus, kuriuos gali mokytis gimnazijoje. Dažniau tai gali užtikrinti didesnės gimnazijos. Tačiau matydama tendencijas, kiek kokiais metais mokinių mokosi gimnazijose, priėmiau sprendimą, kad vieneri demografinio neatitikimo metai neturi nulemti gimnazijos likimo“, – sako švietimo, mokslo ir sporto ministrė Radvilė Morkūnaitė-Mikulėnienė.
Vyriausybė taip pat įtvirtino galimybę bendradarbiavimo ir jungtinės veiklos sutartis sudaryti ne tik skirtingų, bet ir to paties tipo mokykloms, pavyzdžiui, dviem ar daugiau gimnazijų, tam tikram tikslui siekti ar veiklai plėtoti. Mokyklos turės galimybes efektyviau panaudoti mokyklų infrastruktūrą, mokymo priemones. Mokyklos, kurios, pavyzdžiui, neturi sporto salės, stadiono, laboratorijų gamtamoksliniam ugdymui, turės geresnes sąlygas mokinių ugdymosi poreikiams tenkinti.
Lieka galioti jau anksčiau įteisintos išimtys, kad galima sudaryti tik po vieną III ir IV dvylikos mokinių klasę vienintelėje savivaldybės teritorijoje veikiančioje gimnazijoje, vienintelėje savivaldybės centre esančioje gimnazijoje, gimnazijoje tautinių mažumų kalba, gimnazijoje lietuvių kalba Vilniaus ir Šalčininkų r. savivaldybėse, jungtinėje gimnazijoje ir kt.
