Lapkričio 6 dieną užsienio reikalų ministras Gabrielius Landsbergis pasveikino Vilniuje susirinkusio Pasaulio laisvės kongreso, vyksiančio lapkričio 6–8 dienomis, dalyvius. Kreipdamasis į daugiau nei 300 iš viso pasaulio atvykusių žmogaus teisių ir demokratijos gynėjų, ministras pasidžiaugė, kad Vilnius pagrįstai tapo demokratijos gynėjų užuovėja, kur jie gali laisvai susirinkti ir diskutuoti bei pabrėžė jų vaidmens svarbą.
„Atvykote iš įvairių pasaulio kraštų ir esate susidūrę su skirtingomis patirtimis ir kliūtimis, kylančiomis demokratijai. Daugelį iš jūsų valdžioje esantys autokratai mato kaip egzistencinę grėsmę, ir yra nusiteikę prieš žmogaus teises, teisės viršenybę ir skaidrumą“, – teigė G. Landsbergis.
Pasak ministro, šiandien, autokratams bandant paminti vertybes, kuriomis paremtos mūsų visuomenės, drauge turime ieškoti veiksmingų būdų, kaip išlaikyti ir sustiprinti demokratijas bei jų rėmėjus.
„Autokratams gali kuriam laikui pavykti paimti valdžią spaudimo, propagandos ir korupcijos būdu. Tačiau tik demokratinės vyriausybės gali tvariai ir teisėtai valdyti. Tik demokratinės vyriausybės gali užtikrinti taiką ir gerovę. Tai galioja nuo Pietų Amerikos iki Eurazijos ir Indijos-Ramiojo vandenynų“, – sakė ministras.
G. Landsbergis teigė, kad Lietuvai demokratija yra egzistencinės svarbos, nes turime ilgametę demokratinio pasipriešinimo autoritarizmui patirtį – už sienos Minsko ir Maskvos diktatoriai toliau bando savo valstybėse visais įmanomais būdais sunaikinti pilietinę visuomenę ir išrauti demokratiją su šaknimis.
Ministras pabrėžė, kad pilietinės visuomenės aktyvistai iš Baltarusijos ir Rusijos, radę prieglobstį Vilniuje, išlaiko idėją apie demokratines Baltarusiją ir Rusiją gyvą, tačiau tikroji alternatyva Putino brutaliam imperializmui gali kilti tik iš vidaus.
„Šiandien turim pagerbti ir visus tuos, kas tęsia kovą Rusijoje, keldami pavojų savo gyvybei ir šeimoms. Jūsų kova yra ypatingai svarbi, nes žmogaus laisvės siekis yra stipresnis už bet kokio tirono galybę“, – sakė ministras.
G. Landsbergis patikino, kad Lietuvos vyriausybė pasirengusi tęsti bendradarbiavimą su Pasaulio laisvės kongreso atstovais stiprinant demokratines institucijas, tarptautines partnerystes, siekiančias konfliktų sprendimo, teisingumo ir atsakomybės bei geresnės žmogaus teisių apsaugos.
Pasaulio laisvės kongresas yra JAV įsteigta nevyriausybinė organizacija, vienijanti žmogaus teisių gynėjus iš viso pasaulio. Antrus metus iš eilės metinis šios organizacijos kongresas vyksta Vilniuje.
