Vasario 13 dieną Užsienio reikalų viceministras Jonas Survila susitiko su naujuoju Maltos ambasadoriumi Lietuvoje Alexander Scerri Herrera. Susitikimo metu buvo aptarta Rusijos karinė agresiją prieš Ukrainą, būtinybė užtikrinti Rusijos atskaitomybę už padarytus karo nusikaltimus, saugumo iššūkiai Baltijos jūros regione, migracijos keliami iššūkiai bei kiti aktualūs ES darbotvarkės ir dvišalio bendradarbiavimo klausimai.
„Rusija demonstratyviai rodo, kad ji negerbia tarptautinės teisės, visuotinai pripažintų valstybių sienų neliečiamumo ir net universalių moralės normų, todėl tarptautinės bendruomenės atsakas privalo būti vieningas ir ryžtingas. Tai ypatingai svarbu mažoms valstybėms, kurių geopolitinis saugumas priklauso nuo tarptautinių taisyklių bei teisės laikymosi.“ – teigė J. Survila.
Viceministras palinkėjo ambasadoriui aktyviai veikti toliau plėtojant Lietuvos ir Maltos dvišalį ir ekonominį bendradarbiavimą.
Po susitikimo su viceministru Maltos ambasadorius Lietuvoje Alexander Scerri Herrera išvyko į Lietuvos Respublikos Prezidentūrą, kur įteiks skiriamuosius raštus Lietuvos Respublikos Prezidentui Gitanui Nausėdai.
