Šią savaitę Romoje vykstanti 43-oji Jungtinių Tautų Maisto ir žemės ūkio organizacijos (FAO) konferencija Lietuvai ypač svarbi. Joje ne tik išrinktas naujas FAO vadovas, bet ir patvirtinta nauja tarybos sudėtis – dvejų metų laikotarpiui (2023-2025 m.) jos nare išrinkta Lietuva.
FAO konferencija – tai 194-ių pasaulio šalių narių forumas, kurio metu žemės ūkio ministrai, ambasadoriai ir kiti aukšti pareigūnai diskutuoja aktualiausiais maisto, žemės ūkio, žuvininkystės bei miškininkystės klausimais. Šių metų konferencijos tema yra „Vandens išteklių valdymas siekiant „4 geriau“: geresnės gamybos, geresnės mitybos, geresnės aplinkos ir geresnio gyvenimo, įgyvendinant „Darbotvarkę 2030“ ir darnaus vystymosi tikslus”. Konferencijoje FAO vadovu antrajai kadencijai buvo perrinktas dabartinis generalinis direktorius Qu Dongyu.
Lietuva konferencijoje akcentavo ne tik vandens išteklių valdymo ir tausojimo svarbą, bet ir pasmerkė Rusijos agresiją Ukrainoje, atkreipdama dėmesį į didžiulius nuostolius atnešusį Kachovkos užtvankos susprogdinimą. Jis pareikalavo ne tik civilių žmonių aukų ir gyvūnų netekčių, bet ir sukėlė ekologinę katastrofą žemės ūkio regione. Regiono žmonės ir aplinka dar ilgai jaus agresorės brutaliai susprogdintos užtvankos pasekmes.
Lietuvos delegacijos vadovas žemės ūkio ministras Kęstutis Navickas pabrėžė, kad pasaulis kaip niekada turi išlikti vieningas ne tik kovojant su gamtos stichijomis, bet ypač priešinantis totalitarinių režimų sukeltoms grėsmėms regiono ir pasaulio saugumui, kai maistas ir ištekliai naudojami neteisėtiems bei agresyviems tikslams įgyvendinti.
„Tai, kad Lietuva taps FAO tarybos nare, suteiks mums daugiau galimybių būti matomiems ir girdimiems, bet svarbiausia – prisidėti prie organizacijos sprendimų priėmimo aktyviai dalyvaujant diskusijose, sprendžiant globalius maisto ir žemės ūkio išteklių klausimus, taip pat siekiant didesnio organizacijos skaidrumo vykdant veiklas“, – sako ministras K. Navickas.
Konferencijoje Lietuvos žemės ūkio ministras taip pat susitiko su FAO dirbančiais lietuviais ir aptarė Lietuvos galimybes gauti kuo didesnę naudą iš narystės organizacijoje, diskutavo apie lietuvių ekspertų ir mokslininkų įtraukimo į FAO projektus būdus.
