Lietuvos agrarinių ir miškų mokslų centro konferencijoje „Naujos genominės technologijos ir skaitmenizacija žemės ir miškų ūkyje“ Lietuvos mokslininkų, ūkininkų organizacijų ir už aplinką bei žemės ūkį atsakingų institucijų atstovai diskutavo apie naujomis genominėmis technologijomis gautų augalų reglamentavimą.
Konferencijoje pristatyti Lietuvos mokslininkų, dirbančių minėtose srityse, pranešimai, vyko ekspertų diskusija dėl naujomis genominėmis technologijomis kuriamų augalų ir jų panaudojimo sprendžiant žemės ūkyje kylančius iššūkius ir su aplinkos apsauga susijusias problemas.
Susidomėjimas naujomis genominėmis technologijomis padidėjo, kai Europos Komisija pateikė Reglamento pasiūlymą, kuriuo būtų numatomas tokiais metodais gautų augalų reglamentavimas, priklausantis nuo naujomis genominėmis technologijomis atliktų pakeitimų sudėtingumo ir sukurtų augalų savybių. Šis pasiūlymas šiuo metu dar nagrinėjamas Europos Sąjungos tarybos darbo grupėje, Europos Parlamentas jau balsavo dėl savo pozicijos.
