Tyrinėdamas atsinaujinančios žemdirbystės ūkius nuo Europos iki Afrikos keliautojas Lukas Paltanavičius su bendražyge Aisha Hassan dviračiais jau numynė daugiau nei 8 tūkst. kilometrų. Siekdami atkreipti dėmesį į gamtai draugiško ūkininkavimo praktikas, keliautojai lankėsi Žemės ūkio ministerijoje ir susitiko su žemės ūkio ministru Kęstučiu Navicku.
Baigęs žemės ūkio ir biologijos aukštuosius mokslus Lietuvoje, Italijoje bei Olandijoje, L. Paltanavičius ir vystomąjį bendradarbiavimą studijavusi A. Hassan domisi žiedine ekonomika, agroverslu ir atsinaujinančio žemės ūkio plėtra.
Keliautojai ministrui pristatė savo „Cycle to Farms“ projektą. Važiuodami dviračiais iš žemyno į žemyną, iš ūkio į ūkį, jaunuoliai domisi tvariai ūkininkaujančių žmonių veikla, sėkmės istorijomis ir jiems tenkančiais iššūkiais. Projekto metu per pusantrų metų lankytasi Lietuvos ir kitų Europos šalių, Vidurio Rytų ir Afrikos ūkiuose, stebėti skirtumai tarp tradicinio ir atsinaujinančio žemės ūkio (angl. regenerative farming). Savo patirtimi L. Paltanavičius ir A. Hassan taip pat dalinsis ir po kelių savaičių prasidėsiančioje kasmetinėje klimato konferencijoje COP28.
Pasakodama apie aplankytus tvarius ūkius, A. Hassan atkreipė dėmesį, kad tvarumas juose yra visų pirma susijęs su atsakingu išteklių naudojimu. Ūkiuose tikrai rūpinamasi dirvožemio kokybe, siekiama ją gerinti, o ne tik palaikyti esamą dirvožemio būklę, nenaudojama ar naudojama labai mažai trąšų. Taip dirvožemis panaudojamas tvariau ir nespartina klimato kaitos procesų taip intensyviai, kaip tradicinė žemdirbystė. „Modernios žemdirbystės daromą neigiamą poveikį gamtai būtina mažinti, taip pat perimant ir gerąją atsinaujinančios žemdirbystės ūkių patirtį“, – neabejoja jaunoji mokslininkė.
Žemės ūkio ministrui jaunuoliai papasakojo, su kokiais iššūkiais susiduria įvairių šalių ūkininkai, agronomai, diskutavo apie atsinaujinančio ūkininkavimo problemas ir galimybes, domėjosi, kaip tokiems ūkiams galima padėti, skatinti, kaip juos remti planuoja Europos Sąjungos institucijos.
