Iki sausio 15 dienos pratęstas laikas, kada abiturientams dar galima pasirinkti laikyti brandos egzaminus. Iki sausio vidurio jie gali apsispręsti ir papildomai pasirinkti valstybinius brandos egzaminus, kurių nebuvo pasirinkę laikyti 2024 metų sesijoje. Leidžiama papildomai pasirinkti bet kokio dalyko egzaminą, išskyrus mokyklinius – menų ir technologijų – egzaminus.
Egzaminų pasirinkimo laikas pratęsiamas atsižvelgiant į tai, kad galbūt ne visi abiturientai šiemet suspėjo pasirinkti reikalingus egzaminus ar norėtų keisti pirminį savo sprendimą. Ypač aktualus matematikos brandos egzaminas. Skirtingai nuo ankstesnių metų, 2024 m. matematikos brandos egzaminas būtinas tiek stojantiesiems į valstybės finansuojamas vietas, tiek į nefinansuojamas vietas aukštosiose mokyklose. Tai įtvirtinta 2021 m. priimtose Mokslo ir studijų įstatymo pataisose, siekiant stiprinti aukštojo mokslo kokybę ir studentų pasirengimą studijoms.
Iš viso kandidatai gali rinktis laikyti iki 7 brandos egzaminų. Nacionalinės švietimo agentūros duomenimis, prašymus laikyti brandos egzaminus yra pateikę 27 716 kandidatų, panašiai kiek pernai. Kandidatų pasirinkimai panašūs, kaip ir pernai, tik 2023 m. kiek daugiau rinkosi laikyti valstybinius lietuvių kalbos ir literatūros bei matematikos egzaminus, taip pat daugiau abiturientų pasirinko chemijos egzaminą.
2024 metais norintiesiems studijuoti tiek valstybės finansuojamose, tiek nefinansuojamose studijų vietose valstybinėse ir nevalstybinėse aukštosiose mokyklose reikės būti išlaikius 3 valstybinius brandos egzaminus: lietuvių kalbos ir literatūros, matematikos (netaikoma stojantiems į menų studijas) ir stojančiojo laisvai pasirinktą (baigusiems trumposios pakopos studijas pasirinkti egzamino nebūtina).
Stojantiesiems į aukštąsias mokyklas trijų valstybinių brandos egzaminų įvertinimų aritmetinis vidurkis turės būti ne mažesnis nei pagrindinis mokymosi pasiekimų lygis, jeigu bus stojama į universitetines studijas, ir ne mažesnis nei patenkinamas, jei bus stojama į kolegines studijas.
Nuo kitų metų nebebus taikomas metinių pažymių vidurkio reikalavimas, tačiau visiems stojantiesiems reikės pasiekti mažiausią stojamąjį konkursinį balą, nustatytą pačių aukštųjų mokyklų.
Nuo 2024 m. taip pat atsiras papildoma konkursinė eilė stojantiesiems į valstybės finansuojamas studijų vietas aukštosiose mokyklose. Ja galės naudotis jaunuoliai iš labai mažas pajamas gaunančių šeimų, našlaičiai, turintieji neįgalumą, taip pat trumpųjų studijų absolventai ir turintieji praktinės veiklos patirties. Jiems bus keliami tokie patys akademinio pasirengimo reikalavimai kaip ir stojantiesiems per pirmąją konkursinę eilę.
Norėdamas gauti tik brandos atestatą, bet nesirengiantis stoti į aukštąją mokyklą, kaip ir iki šiol, mokinys turės išlaikyti 2 brandos egzaminus: privalomą lietuvių kalbos ir literatūros ir dar vieną dalyko brandos egzaminą ar parengti brandos darbą.
