Vasario 2-3 dienomis užsienio reikalų ministras Gabrielius Landsbergis dalyvavo neformaliame Europos Sąjungos (ES) užsienio reikalų ministrų susitikime (Gymnich) Briuselyje. Ministrai aptarė tolesnę ES paramą, įskaitant karinę paramą ir sankcijas, siekiant padėti Ukrainai kovoti su plataus masto Rusijos agresija.
„Situacija Ukrainos fronte yra kelianti nerimą. Dabar yra esminis pasirinkimo laikas. Su mūsų visų pagalba Ukraina gali laimėti ir tuomet turėsime naują taikos laikotarpį. Bet jeigu laiku nesimobilizuosime ir parama nepasieks Ukrainos – iššūkiai kils ne tik dabar už mus visus kovojančiai šaliai, ne tik mūsų regionui, bet ir visai Europai”, – sakė G. Landsbergis.
„Tik stiprūs Europos veiksmai gali paskatinti Rusiją keisti savo elgesį”, – teigė Lietuvos diplomatijos vadovas.
Susitikimo metu taip pat buvo diskutuojama dėl ES ir Afrikos valstybių bei ES – Afrikos Sąjungos bendradarbiavimo sudėtingame geopolitiniame kontekste, taip pat ir dėl Rusijos agresijos prieš Ukrainą globalių pasekmių. Ministrai taip pat aptarė, kaip ES galėtų geriau taikyti ir adaptuoti ES instrumentus, prisidedant prie stabilumo Afrikos valstybėse stiprinimo ir krizių sprendimo.
Susitikimo metu ES užsienio reikalų ministrai taip pat aptarė būdus plėtoti ES – Turkijos santykius, remiantis bendrais interesais ir siekiant įgalinti abipusiai naudingą bendradarbiavimą užsienio ir saugumo politikos srityje.
