Profesorius pelnė Lietuvos ir tarptautinį pripažinimą už įvairius darbus: planšetę aklųjų darbui su dvimate grafika ir internetu, pjezoelektrinius robotus manipuliatorius, kitus reikšmingus, praktikoje pritaikomus prietaisus.
R. P. Bansevičius yra daugiau kaip 250 mokslinių straipsnių, 7 precizinių sistemų dinamikos srities knygų, 18 patentų užsienyje autorius. Jis sukūrė pjezomechanikos pagrindus ir jos taikymą realizuojant naują precizinių mechanizmų klasę – pjezoelektrines kelių laisvės laipsnių pavaras.
Profesorius buvo Belgijos Karaliaus karūnos Komandoro ordino kavalierius (2006 m.), kuriam kartu su bendraautoriais už darbų ciklą „Pjezomechaninės sistemos: teorija ir taikymai“ 2010 m. buvo skirta Lietuvos mokslo premija.
Mokslininkas taip pat įvertintas Lietuvos Didžiojo kunigaikščio Gedimino 5-ojo laipsnio ordinu (1999 m.).
