Mokytojo, kuris pretenduoja į Metų mokytojo premiją, veikla turi pasižymėti pilietiškumo, bendražmogiškų vertybių diegimu, meistriškumu, inovatyviais metodiniais darbais, aktyvia, kūrybiška veikla mokyklos bendruomenėje, iniciatyvumu dalyvaujant pedagoginėje, visuomeninėje, kultūrinėje veikloje už mokyklos ribų.
Kandidatūras Metų mokytojo premijai gauti gali siūlyti mokyklų vadovai, savivaldybės, mokytojai, mokiniai, tėvai ir jiems atstovaujančios organizacijos, vietos bendruomenė, socialiniai partneriai.
Švietimo, mokslo ir sporto ministerijos įsteigtos Metų mokytojo premijos tikslas – įvertinti mokytojų profesinės veiklos rezultatus ir skatinti juos kūrybinei iniciatyvai. Premija skiriama mokytojams, pagalbos mokiniui specialistams už reikšmingiausius pastarųjų 5 metų nuopelnus profesinėje veikloje. Premijos dydis – 120 bazinių socialinių išmokų BSI, šiemet tai sudaro 5 880 eurų.
Metų mokytojo premijos bus įteiktos Tarptautinės mokytojų dienos proga.
