Kartu su olimpinėmis ir paralimpinėmis žaidynėmis baigėsi ir ketverių metų olimpinis ir paralimpinis ciklas. Tad didžiosioms sporto šventėms pasibaigus turime puikią progą įsivertinti savo pačių – politikų, – nuveiktus darbus siekiant didinti sportininkų gerovę, peržiūrėti iškeltus tikslus ir patikslinti juos ateičiai.
Šis olimpinis ir paralimpinis ciklas nebuvo paprastas – vos įkvėpę oro po COVID-19 pandemijos, sulaukėme žinios apie Rusijos plataus masto karinę invaziją į Ukrainą. Švietimo, mokslo ir sporto ministerija, Lietuvos tautinis olimpinis komitetas ir Lietuvos paralimpinis komitetas, nacionalinės sporto šakų federacijos ir organizacijos, sportininkai – visi kartu ir individualiai dėjome daug pastangų, kad agresorių sportininkų nebūtų tarptautinėse sporto arenose. Dar kartą dėkoju mūsų sporto bendruomenei už vienybę ir principinę poziciją – nepameskime jos šiam nepateisinamam karui jau virtus kasdienybe, eikime kartu iki pergalės.
Tuo pačiu metu dirbome ir dėl to, kad sportininkai, sporto organizacijos Lietuvoje turėtų kuo geresnes sąlygas veikti, augti, rengtis varžyboms ir garsinti mūsų šalį. Sporto plėtros programoje visą sporto sistemą siekiama suformuoti kaip piramidę, kurios pagrindą sudaro vaikų ir suaugusiųjų fizinį aktyvumą skatinančios veiklos, o centrinė dalis ir viršūnė tenka aukšto meistriškumo sportui, geriausiems šalies sportininkams ir jų pasiekimams. Įgyvendinant programą, atliekant pokyčius, siekiama sustiprinti sporto piramidės pagrindą – didinti visuomenės fizinį aktyvumą, populiarinti sporto šakas, pritraukti išskirtinių sportinių gabumų turinčių vaikų ir auginti sportininkų pamainą.
Šios vasaros pradžioje priimti Sporto įstatymo pakeitimai sudaro sąlygas stiprinti būtent piramidės pagrindą. Sportininkai ir jų treneriai skatinami ne tik vienkartinėmis valstybės premijomis už iškovotus medalius ir aukštus pasiekimus, kurios, lyginant su kitų šalių skiriamomis, yra išties solidžios (tokios valstybės kaip Didžioji Britanija, Švedija, Norvegija, Suomija premijų sportininkams visai neskiria). Lietuvos sportininkams skiriamos ir kas mėnesį mokamos valstybės stipendijos. Nuo 2021 m. gaunančių stipendijas sportininkų skaičius išaugo 50 proc. Praplėstas stipendijų gavėjų ratas, kad stipendiją gautų ne tik pirmųjų vietų tarptautinėse sporto varžybose laimėtojai – valstybė mato potencialą ir prisideda prie paskatinimo.
