Šiuo metu 16-oje savivaldybių 13 šeimų lankymo specialisčių reguliariai lanko 325 šeimas, šioms dalyvaujant bandomuosiuose šeimų lankymo modelįdiegimo projektuose. Šalies mastu šeimų lankymo paslaugą planuojama teikti nuo 2025 gegužės.
Sveikatos priežiūros paslauga Lietuvoje pradėta teikti remiantis užsienio šalių patirtimi, kai specialias žinias įgiję sveikatos priežiūros specialistai padeda mamoms sumažinti galimas rizikas arba jų išvengti bei padėti joms saugiai pasirūpinti savo ir vaiko sveikata, suformuoti gerus motinystės įgūdžius.

Šeimų lankymo specialistės lankydamos šeimą namuose pagal poreikį atlieka higienos ar slaugos procedūras, taip pat padeda motinai keisti gyvenimo būdą, įpročius. Iki to laiko numatyta paruošti ir daugiau šeimų lankymo specialistų. Juos rengia Lietuvos sveikatos mokslų universitetas (LSMU), remdamasis užsienio šalių gerąja patirtimi.
