Gegužės 3 dieną Briuselyje Lietuvos ambasadoriaus Arnoldo Pranckevičiaus ir Airijos ambasadoriaus Tom Hanney iniciatyva Lietuvos nuolatinėje atstovybėje Europos Sąjungoje (ES) surengta neformali COREPER II ambasadorių pusryčių diskusija Ukrainos ES integracijos tema su Pat Cox, buvusiu Europos Parlamento (EP) pirmininku, vienu iš Cox-Kwasniewski misijos Ukrainoje 2012-2013 m. derybininkų.
„Pat Cox patirtis, dirbant su Ukrainos reformomis nuo pat 2012 metų, taip pat jo įžvalgos apie istorinę 2004 metų ES plėtrą, kurią jis liudijo kaip EP pirmininkas, ypač vertingos šiandien, kai Taryboje ruošiamės derybų su Ukraina pradžiai ir diskutuojame apie ateities plėtros pasekmes ES institucinei sąrangai ir skirtingoms politikos sritims“, – diskusijos pradžioje sakė A. Pranckevičius.
Buvęs EP pirmininkas P. Cox diskusijos metu pabrėžė, kad ES integracija yra pozityviausias iššūkis per visą Ukrainos nepriklausomybės laikotarpį, o pati Ukraina yra pasiryžusi atlikti stojimo namų darbus. P. Cox teigė, kad ne mažesni namų darbai ir iššūkiai laukia pačios ES, tačiau turime neabejoti, kad Ukrainos narystė yra ir strateginis pačios ES interesas.
Svečias akcentavo, kad kuo ryžtingesnė bus ES padedant Ukrainai integruotis, tuo geresnį rezultatą pasieksime ir pačioje Ukrainoje. Perfrazuojant buvusio ECB prezidento M. Draghi garsiąja frazę, P. Cox ragino ES „padaryti viską, kas įmanoma“ dėl sėkmingos Ukrainos integracijos į ES.
Taip pat šią dieną, minint Pasaulinę spaudos laisvės dieną, atstovybėje vyko diskusija apie istorijos dezinformaciją socialiniuose tinkluose, kurios metu savo patirtimi, tyrimais ir įžvalgomis dalinosi JAV istorikas ir rašytojas Jason Steinhauer. Atviros su auditorija diskusijos metu buvo kalbama apie geresnės edukacijos poreikį norint stiprinti visuomenių atsparumą dezinformacijai, naujų viešinimo metodų taikymą, požiūrių skirtumus ES ir JAV dėl internetinių platformų reguliacijos.
