Sausio 23 dieną užsienio reikalų viceministras Egidijus Meilūnas susitiko su JAV Kongreso Atstovų rūmų narės Chrissy Houlahan vadovaujama delegacija.
Viceministras E. Meilūnas akcentavo aktyviai plėtojamą Lietuvos ir JAV strateginę partnerystę, ženkliai augančius ekonominius ryšius ir intensyvų bendradarbiavimą saugumo ir gynybos srityse. Viceministras pažymėjo, kad Lietuvoje dislokuotas karinis JAV batalionas labai prisideda prie mūsų regiono saugumo.
„Stiprus transatlantinis ryšys ir JAV buvimas Europoje yra esminiai mūsų saugumo ramsčiai. Esame dėkingi JAV Kongresui už nuoseklią paramą Baltijos šalių saugumo iniciatyvoms“, – sakė E. Meilūnas.
Susitikimo metu aptarta būtinybė tęsti ir stiprinti paramą Ukrainai, kovojančiai su Rusijos agresija, ir užtikrinti Rusijos atsakomybę už įvykdytus karo nusikaltimus. Taip pat aptartas NATO vaidmuo stiprinant gynybą ir atgrasymą regione, pasiruošimas NATO viršūnių susitikimui Vašingtone, agresyvus Kinijos elgesys, situacija Artimuosiuose Rytuose.
