Lietuvos užsienio reikalų ministras Gabrielius Landsbergis vizito JAV metu Lietuvos diplomatijos žvaigždėmis apdovanojo tris žymias saugumo politikos ekspertes – Anne Applebaum, Heather Conley ir Karen Donfried.
„Nei Lietuvos narystė NATO, nei tvirti transatlantiniai ryšiai nėra duotybė. Tai labai nuoseklaus darbo bei Lietuvos draugų pastangų rezultatas. Esu dėkingas visiems, primenantiems apie tai, kodėl pasauliui reikalingas tvirtas transatlantinis ryšys ir ypač esu dėkingas Anne Applebaum, Heather Conley ir Karen Donfried už nuolatinę paramą Lietuvos užsienio politikos tikslams“, – įteikdamas apdovanojimus sakė Lietuvos diplomatijos vadovas.
Anne Applebaum – žinoma saugumo politikos ekspertė už savo publikacijas pelniusi Pulitzerio premiją. Rusijai pradėjus pilno masto invaziją į Ukrainą ji savo straipsniuose The Atlantic, The Wahington Post, kituose leidiniuose argumentuotai aiškina, kodėl JAV ir visas demokratinis pasaulis turi remti Ukrainą, stabdyti Rusiją ir priversti ją atsakyti už savo veiksmus.
Heather Conley yra buvusi JAV valstybės sekretoriaus pavaduotoja, prisidėjusi prie NATO plėtros ir Lietuvos narystės aljanse. Šiuo metu ji eina JAV analitinio centro German Marshall Fund prezidentės pareigas ir savo veikla prisidėjo prie Vilniaus NATO viršūnių susitikimo organizavimo.
Karen Erika Donfried yra buvusi JAV valstybės sekretoriaus pavaduotoja Europos ir Eurazijos reikalams, prisidėjusi prie Lietuvos ir viso regiono saugumo interesų užtikrinimo bei Lietuvos ir JAV santykių plėtojimo. Šiuo metu ji yra vieno iš Harvardo universiteto analitinių centrų mokslinė bendradarbė.
