Gegužės 7 dieną Lietuvos ambasada Londone kartu su Jungtinės Karalystės lietuvių bendruomene po ilgos pertraukos suorganizavo iškilmingus Maldos pusryčius, kuriuose dalyvavo Lietuvos Respublikos prezidentas Gitanas Nausėda ir pirmoji ponia Diana Nausėdienė.
„Laisvė mūsų tėvams ir protėviams niekada nebuvo duotybė. Mes, laisvos Lietuvos žmonės, mėgaujamės laisve dėl to, kad ištisos kartos laisvę mylinčių lietuvių buvo pasiryžusios ją ginti ir vardan jos aukojosi“, – renginio metu kalbėjo Lietuvos vadovas.
Kreipdamasis į Maldos pusryčių dalyvius prezidentas teigė besidžiaugiantis aktyvia Jungtinės Karalystės lietuvių bendruomenės veikla ir didelėmis pastangomis išsaugoti lietuvybę ir krikščioniškąsias tradicijas. Pasak šalies vadovo, ypač svarbus yra siekis gimtąją kalbą ir tradicijas perduoti jaunajai kartai.
Renginio svečius taip pat pasveikino Diana Nausėdienė, Lietuvos ambasadorius Jungtinėje Karalystėje Eitvydas Bajarūnas, Šv. Kazimiero parapijos klebonas kun. Petras Tverijonas, Lietuvių krikščionių bažnyčios pastorius Darius Ditkevičius, Jungtinės Karalystės lietuvių bendruomenės pirmininkė Alvija Černiauskaitė ir Jungtinės Karalystės lietuvių bendruomenės Specialaus skyriaus pirmininkė Aušra Gabrilavičiūtė, pristačiusi specialiųjų poreikių ir vaikus su negalia auginančių šeimų iššūkius.
Kreipdamasi į susirinkusius Diana Nausėdienė pabrėžė, jog minint Motinos dieną, labai svarbu prisiminti ir palaikyti ne tik mylinčias, bet ir kenčiančias mamas. „Žiaurumai, kuriuos patiria Ukrainos motinos, yra sunkiai suvokiami. Jų sūnūs ir dukros didvyriškai gina savo Tėvynę. Daugybė Ukrainos civilių, moterų ir vaikų, tapo šio žiauraus, beprasmio karo aukomis. Daugybei teko ieškotis pastogės svetur, kai jų namus sugriovė rusiškos raketos“, – sakė D. Nausėdienė.
Jos žodžiais, nuo pirmųjų karo dienų Lietuva stengiasi padėti Ukrainai. Lietuvos ir Ukrainos pirmųjų ponių iniciatyva praėjusių metų birželį Vilniuje duris atvėrė Ukrainos centras, tapęs saugia užuovėja karo pabėgėliams.
Šių metų Maldos pusryčių muzikinę programą parengė prodiuseris ir kompozitorius Gediminas Zujus kartu su klasikinės muzikos atlikėjais Edmundu Seiliumi ir Kristina Zmailaite. Renginio metu taip pat pasirodė ukrainietis iš Zaporižės Kirilas Dernovyi, Amelija Juonytė, Jungtinės Karalystės muzikinė grupė „Pepi Pop“.
Tiek renginyje dalyvavę svečiai, tiek plačioji visuomenė taip pat dalyvavo tyliajame aukcione. Visos lėšos prieš renginį ir renginio metu skirtos Lietuvos ir Ukrainos pirmųjų ponių globojamam Ukrainos centrui Vilniuje ir specialiųjų poreikių vaikus auginančioms lietuvių šeimoms Jungtinėje Karalystėje. Iš viso buvo paaukota 6134 svaro sterlingų.
Maldos pusryčiai, kuriuos šiais metais rėmė „Lituanica UK Ltd“ – tradicinis šalies vadovų globojamas renginys, sukuriantis galimybę šalies ir diplomatinių atstovybių vadovams, bendruomenių lyderiams, religinių konfesijų, kultūros, verslo ir visuomenės atstovams pabendrauti, prisiminti krikščioniškas vertybes bei prisijungti prie paramos akcijų.
