Birželio 15 dieną Australijos Parlamente Kanberoje vyko Baltijos šalių grupės inauguracinis renginys. Tai pirmoji Australijos Parlamento grupė, įkurta siekiant gerinti Australijos ir Baltijos šalių politinius bei ekonominius santykius.
Anksčiau vykusio steigiamojo posėdžio metu grupės pirmininkais paskirti Senatorė Deborah O’Neill ir Senatorius James Paterson, o prie grupės ligi šiol prisijungė dar 42 Australijos parlamentarai ir senatoriai.
Renginyje dalyvavo grupės primininkai ir nariai bei Baltijos šalių ambasadoriai Australijoje. Taip pat dalyvavo svečiai iš Užsienio reikalų ir prekybos departamento.
Renginio dalyvius sveikino ir Seimo narys, Tarpparlamentinių ryšių su Australijos, Naujosios Zelandijos ir kitomis Okeanijos šalimis grupės primininkas Andrius Vyšniauskas. Taip pat Latvijos ir Estijos parlamentų atstovai.
„Susirenkame Baltijos šalims simboliniu metu, kai minime masinių gyventojų trėmimų pradžią. Šio skaudulio iš atminties neištrinsime ir istoriją perduosime vis naujoms kartoms. Matome, kiek toli nuėjome išsivadavę iš brutalaus režimo. Ir esame be galo dėkingi šalims, kurios suteikė mums pripažinimą, kai to reikėjo, ir girdi mus vėl, kai tas pats režimas iš naujo kėsinasi į mūsų regioną“, – kalbėjo ambasadorius Darius Degutis.
Grupės pirmininkė Senatorė Deborah O’Neill pareiškė užuojautą Baltijos šalims dėl trėmimų ir padėkojo už lyderystę remiant Ukrainą.
Senatorius James Paterson džiaugėsi įsteigta Baltijos šalių grupe ir teigė, kad šis sprendimas yra itin savalaikis matant šalių tvirtą poziciją ir paramą Ukrainai.
D. Degutis pasisakė apie artėjantį NATO viršūnių susitikimą ir pasidžiaugė, kad pirmą kartą istorijoje Australijos Ministras Primininkas lankysis Lietuvoje.
„Lietuva pritaria Ukrainos priėmimui į NATO ir mūsų regiono pozicija šiuo klausimu yra aiški“, – teigė ambasadorius ir padėkojo už neseniai Australijos skirtą ginkluotą paramą Ukrainai.
Baltijos šalių grupės nariai teigė, kad po vyksiančio NATO viršūnių susitikimo, labai norėtų apsilankyti Baltijos šalyse ir užmegzti glaudesnius santykius regione. Australai teigė besijaučiantys skolingi Ukrainai ir tikisi, kad su mūsų regiono pagalba galėtų savo paramą didinti.
Lietuvos ambasada Australijoje oficialiai atidaryta 2022 metų vasario 9 dieną, užsienio reikalų ministro Gabrieliaus Landsbergio oficialaus vizito į Australiją metu. Nors ambasada skaičiuoja tik antrus metus, per šį laikotarpį itin daug dėmesio skirta dvišalių ekonominių santykių gerinimui ir plėtojimui. To rezultatai – šių metų vasario 9 dieną Vilniuje atidaryta Australijos prekybos ir investicijų AUSTRADE būstinė, kuri yra 10-oji tokio tipo atstovybė Europoje; inicijuota Australijos–Lietuvos verslo taryba. Tikimasi dar šiais metais užbaigti derybas dėl dvigubo apmokestinimo išvengimo sutarties ir pasirašyti Laisvos prekybos sutartį, dėl kurios derasi Europos Sąjunga.
