Lietuvos ambasada Jungtinėje Karalystėje (JK), bendradarbiaudama su lietuvių diaspora, vietos valdžios ir akademinės bendruomenės atstovais, surengė Vilniaus 700 metų jubiliejaus renginius Škotijoje ir Šiaurės Airijoje.
Balandžio 27 dieną ambasadorius Eitvydas Bajarūnas dalyvavo Aberdyno universitete vykusioje knygos „Vilnius – savas ir svetimas“ autoriaus Laimono Briedžio paskaitoje apie Vilnių, skirtoje pristatyti turtingą miesto istoriją bei jo žmonių daugiakultūriškumą, kuris tęsiasi jau 700 metų.
Vizito metu ambasadorius susitiko su Aberdyno universiteto vadovais ir dėstytojais: prof. Robert Frost, prof. Karin Friedrich, prof. Karl Leydecker, prof. Beth Lord bei dr. Andrew Dilley. Susitikimo metu buvo aptartos bendradarbiavimo ir akademinių mainų galimybės su Lietuvo universitetais. Ambasadorius Eitvydas Bajarūnas pasidžiaugė, kad universitete jau daug metų veikia Lenkijos–Lietuvos studijų centras, kuriam vadovauja prof. Robert Frost.
E. Bajarūnas taip pat susitiko su Aberdyno meru Lord Provost, Lietuvių asociacijos šiaurės rytų Škotijoje (ALNES) vadove Evelina Kovnators bei viena iš asociacijos įkūrėjų Žydrūne Herbert. Susitikime aptarti svarbūs lietuvių bendruomenės klausimai, bendros ateities iniciatyvos ir bendradarbiavimo galimybės.
Balandžio 28 dieną Lietuvos ambasados diplomatas Tadas Kubilius dalyvavo kartu su Belfasto miesto savivaldybe ir Vidurio Alsterio lietuvių bendruomene „Baltic together“ organizuotoje Vilniaus 700 metų jubiliejaus šventėje, kurios dalyviai turėjo galimybę susitikti su kultūros geografu Laimonu Briedžiu ir pasiklausyti išskirtinių istorijų apie Vilnių. Po susitikimo svečių laukė dainininko Jono Kriauklio muzikinis pasirodymas. Renginyje dalyvavo Belfasto miesto merės pavaduotoja Michelle Kelly.
Tadas Kubilius renginio išvakarėse Belfaste su Šiaurės Airijos lietuvių bendruomenės „Amber” pirmininke Edita Hamilton ir bendruomenės atstovais aptarė aktualius grįžimo į Lietuvą klausimus, tokios informacijos poreikį tarp Šiaurės Airijos lietuvių bei galimybes surengti kultūrinius renginius vietos lietuviams.
Balandžio 27–28 dienos renginius, skirtus Vilniaus 700 metų jubiliejui, parėmė Užsienio reikalų ministerija iš tikslinių lėšų, skirtų „Globalios Lietuvos“ programos įgyvendinimui.
