Gegužės 1–12 dienomis Lietuva aktyviai dalyvavo Jungtinių Tautų (JT) Žmogaus teisių tarybos Visuotinės periodinės peržiūros darbo grupės 43–osios sesijos darbe. Sesijos metu Lietuva teikė rekomendacijas žmogaus teisių srityje vienuolikai peržiūroje dalyvavusių šalių: Prancūzijai, Tongai, Rumunijai, Burundžiui, Bahamoms, Liuksemburgui, Barbadosui, Juodkalnijai, Jungtiniams Arabų Emyratams, Lichtenšteinui ir Serbijai.
Lietuva rekomendavo skirti dėmesį žurnalistų saugumui ir žmogaus teisių gynėjų apsaugai, lyčių lygybei, moterų, asmenų su negalia ir vaiko teisių užtikrinimui. Taip pat paragino apsvarstyti tarptautinių konvencijų ir jų fakultatyvinių protokolų ratifikavimą, nacionalinių teisės aktų, veiksmų planų atskirose žmogaus teisių srityse priėmimą bei teikė kitas rekomendacijas, atsižvelgdama į žmogaus teisių padėtį šalyse. Visos rekomendacijos buvo parengtos susipažinus su šių šalių nacionalinėmis ataskaitomis, JT ekspertų ir nevyriausybinių organizacijų vertinimais bei atsižvelgus į Lietuvos narystės Žmogaus teisių taryboje prioritetus.
Šios sesijos metu peržiūroje dalyvavusios šalys vidutiniškai sulaukė po daugiau kaip 200 rekomendacijų iš vidutiniškai 80–120 šalių. Gautas rekomendacijas šalys turės įvertinti ir priimti sprendimą dėl jų įgyvendinimo iki 54–osios Žmogaus teisių tarybos sesijos. Jos metu bus tvirtinamos visų Visuotinės periodinės peržiūros darbo grupės 43–osios sesijos metu vertintų šalių galutinės ataskaitos.
Lietuva, kaip Žmogaus teisių tarybos narė, kartu su Kinija ir Malaviu taip pat dalyvavo Liuksemburgo peržiūros Trejeto darbe, parengiant ir priimant Liuksemburgo rekomendacijų ataskaitą. Liuksemburgas sulaukė 254 rekomendacijų žmogaus teisių srityje.
Visuotinė periodinė peržiūra yra laikoma viena sėkmingiausių JT Žmogaus teisių tarybos veiklos formų, užtikrinančių visų be išimties JT valstybių narių žmogaus teisių padėties vertinimą. Nuo 2008 metų veikiančioje peržiūroje pagal iš anksto sudarytą planą šalys išsamiai pristato žmogaus teisių padėtį savo šalyje, o kitoms šalims suteikiama teisė įsitraukti į šį procesą teikiant rekomendacijas dėl geresnės žmogaus teisių apsaugos užtikrinimo ir atkreipiant dėmesį į žmogaus teisių pažeidimus. Žmogaus teisių padėtis Lietuvoje buvo svarstyta Visuotinės periodinės peržiūros darbo grupės sesijose, vykusiose 2011, 2017 ir 2022 metais. Ketvirtoji Lietuvos peržiūra numatoma 2027 metais.
