Birželio 11–13 dienomis vykusio vizito Kanadoje metu užsienio reikalų viceministras Egidijus Meilūnas susitiko su Kanados užsienio reikalų ministerijos (Global Affairs Canada) ir Ministro Pirmininko kabineto pareigūnais, lietuvių bendruomenės atstovais, dalyvavo Kanados parlamento Atstovų rūmų Užsienio reikalų komiteto posėdyje.
Susitikimuose su Kanados užsienio reikalų viceministru David Morrison, ministerijos Politikos direktore Heidi Hulan ir Ministro Pirmininko kabineto Užsienio reikalų ir gynybos politikos sekretoriaus pavaduotoju Jordan Zed aptartas pasirengimas NATO viršūnių susitikimui Vilniuje, parama Ukrainai ir jos narystei NATO, atgrasymui ir gynybai skirtų NATO pajėgų rytų flange stiprinimas.
„Labai vertiname Kanados indėlį užtikrinant Baltijos šalių saugumą. Artėjant NATO viršūnių susitikimui Vilniuje svarbu įgyvendinti Madrido susitikimo metu iškeltus tikslus dėl atgrasymo ir gynybos, užtikrinant priešakinę gynybą ties rytine NATO siena“, – po susitikimų Kanados sostinėje sakė viceministras E. Meilūnas.
Susitikęs su Kanados užsienio reikalų viceministro pavaduotoju Indijos ir Ramiojo vandenynų regionui Weldon Epp, viceministras pristatė Lietuvos poziciją dėl būtinybės mažinti ekonominę priklausomybę nuo Kinijos, aptarė galimybes didinti strateginę diversifikaciją, stiprinti bendradarbiavimą su Indijos–Ramiojo vandenynų regionu.
