Gegužės 15 d. Briuselyje vyksiančiame Europos Sąjungos sporto ministrų Tarybos susitikime ES sporto politikai Lietuvos atstovų iniciatyva diskutuos apie Ukrainos sportininkų teises ir Rusijos bei Baltarusijos sportininkų dalyvavimą Europos Sąjungoje vykstančiuose tarptautiniuose sporto renginiuose.
Tarybos posėdyje Lietuva atkreips dėmesį į tai, jog svarbu užtikrinti pagarbą žmogaus teisėms organizuojant didžiuosius tarptautinius sporto renginius. Agresorių šalių atstovų grąžinimas į tarptautines sporto arenas akivaizdžiai pažeidžia Ukrainos sportininkų teises. Lietuva ragina ginti Ukrainos sportininkų žmogaus teises, užtikrinti, kad būtų apsaugotas jų orumas, vertybės, psichinė sveikata, taip pat ginti jų teisę netrukdomai dalyvauti sporte, gerbti kitų šalių sportininkų teisę nesivaržyti su šalių agresorių atstovais.
„Lietuvos griežta pozicija dėl Rusijos ir Baltarusijos sportininkų dalyvavimo tarptautinėse sporto varžybose nepasikeitė – jie neturėtų dalyvauti tarptautiniame sporte, kol jų šalys tęsia karą Ukrainoje. Esame įsitikinę, kad nacionalinės sporto federacijos ir organizacijos turėtų imtis aktyvesnių, drąsesnių veiksmų. Todėl norime pakviesti apie tai diskutuoti ES valstybių už sportą atsakingus ministrus. ES šalys galėtų pasisakyti už tai, kad ES šalyse vykstančiose varžybose nebūtų leidžiama dalyvauti Rusijos ir Baltarusijos sportininkams“, – sako švietimo, mokslo ir sporto ministrė Jurgita Šiugždinienė.
Ministrės iniciatyva šalies sporto šakų federacijos ir sporto organizacijos dar šįmet kovą pasirašė deklaraciją, kurioje išsakoma vieninga Lietuvos sporto bendruomenės pozicija dėl Rusijos ir Baltarusijos sportininkų dalyvavimo tarptautinėse varžybose, kol šios šalys tęsia karą Ukrainoje. Deklaracija išplatinta tarptautinėms sporto šakų federacijoms, Tarptautiniam olimpiniam komitetui.
Kviesdama ES sporto ministrus išlaikyti tvirtą vertybinę poziciją, Lietuva atkreips dėmesį, kad reaguodamos į kai kurių tarptautinių sporto organizacijų sprendimus grąžinti agresorių sportininkus į tarptautinį sportą, kai kurios ES narės atšaukė jų šalyse turėjusias vykti varžybas, kuriose būtų galėję dalyvauti Rusijos ir Baltarusijos atletai. Nors tai išties kraštutinė priemonė, nereiktų baimintis ir tokių, siekiant, kad šalys-agresorės nebūtų atstovaujamos tarptautiniame sporte.
