Rugsėjo 4 dieną Užsienio reikalų ministerijoje lankėsi Europos Komisijos (EK) Kaimynystės politikos ir plėtros generalinio direktorato (DG NEAR) skyriaus, kuruojančio Europos Sąjungos santykių su Armėnija, Azerbaidžanu, Baltarusija bei Rytų partnerystės ir institucinio bendradarbiavimo klausimus, vadovo Davido Culleno vadovaujama Europos Komisijos ir Europos išorės veiksmų tarnybos (EIVT) atstovų delegacija.
Susitikimų su Užsienio reikalų ministerijos politikos direktore Inga Stanyte-Toločkiene bei Rytų kaimynystės politikos departamento direktoriumi Dariumi Vitkausku metu išsamiai aptarti Europos Sąjungos paramos Rytų partnerystės šalims klausimai. URM atstovai pristatė Lietuvos teikiamą paramą bei konkrečius būdus ją dar labiau stiprinti.
Lietuvos pusė išreiškė stiprų lūkestį, kad spalį pasirodysiančiame metiniame ES plėtros pakete Europos Komisija rekomenduos jau artimiausiu metu pradėti stojimo į ES derybas su Ukraina ir Moldova.
Taikos užtikrinimas, reformų ir suartėjimo su ES skatinimas Pietų Kaukaze buvo įvardinti kaip svarbiausi ES ir Lietuvos prioritetai šiame regione.
Su EK ir EIVT atstovais taip pat buvo aptarta blogėjanti pilietinės visuomenės padėtis Baltarusijoje, politinių kalinių situacija, pažymėta būtinybė toliau tęsti visapusišką paramą Baltarusijos pilietinės visuomenės ir nepriklausomos žiniasklaidos atstovams.
Susitikimo metu pažymėta, kad ES Rytų partnerystės politika išlieka aktuali ir turi būti toliau stiprinama nepaisant kylančių iššūkių regione, dėl Rusijos karo prieš Ukrainą kylančių pasekmių visoms regiono šalims. Susitikime pasikeista nuomonėmis dėl šiemet Vilniuje rengiamų Rytų partnerystės renginių, skirtų regiono šalių muitinių bendradarbiavimo ir saugumo bei gynybos politikos klausimams. Pažymėta, kad š.m. lapkričio 28-29 d. sukanka dešimt metų nuo Rytų partnerystės Viršūnių susitikimo Vilniuje, o 2024 m. gegužę bus minima Rytų partnerystės politikos inauguravimo Viršūnių susitikime Prahoje 15 metų sukaktis.
