Žemės ūkio ministras Kazys Starkevičius lankėsi Moldovoje, kuri Lietuvą yra pasirinkusi kaip partnerę, padėsiančią jai eurointegracijos kelyje.

Moldovos žemės ūkio ir maisto pramonės ministro Vladimir’o Bolea kvietimu Lietuvos žemės ūkio ministras kartu su kolegomis iš Latvijos, Estijos ir Rumunijos atvyko palaikyti, padrąsinti, pasidalinti patirtimi, prisidėti prie diskusijų apie žemės ūkio plėtrą šioje šalyje. Moldovoje lankėsi ir ES žemės ūkio komisaras Janusz‘as Wojciechowski‘s.
Šiuo metu Moldovai didžiausias iššūkis – kaip, trūkstant kvalifikuotų specialistų, suspėti ir tinkamai pasiruošti ES reglamentų ir kitų reikalingų dokumentų ratifikavimui, t. y. pritaikymui nacionalinėje įstatymų bazėje.

Susitikime atkreiptas dėmesys į tai, kad stojimo į ES procesas nėra labai greitas ir lengvas, jam reikia atsakingai ruoštis, tačiau pirmasis žingsnis – referendume balsuoti už stojimą į ES.
Vizito Moldovoje metu įvyko ir neformalus Moldovos Parlamento pirmininko Igoriu Grosu ir ministro K. Starkevičiaus susitikimas, kurio metu aptarta bendra pasiruošimo stoti į ES padėtis, visuomenės nuotaikos.
Naudojantis proga, kad Moldovoje lankėsi ir ES žemės ūkio komisaras, taip pat surengtas ir atskiras dvišalis ministro K. Starkevičiaus susitikimas su ES komisaru J. Wojciechowski‘u. Pagrindinė tema – BŽŪP strateginių planų įgyvendinimo ir pakeitimo procedūrų supaprastinimas. Akcentuota, kad strateginių planų keitimas būtų lankstesnis, o techniniai elementai, tokie kaip šienavimo ar sėjos datos, būtų palikti valstybių narių kompetencijai ar būtų nesunkiai keičiami.
