Lapkričio 16 dieną užsienio reikalų viceministras Egidijus Meilūnas dalyvavo Lietuvos Respublikos Seimo ir Pasaulio lietuvių bendruomenės komisijos sesijos metu vykusioje konferencijoje „Vilnius – Ukrainos diasporos vienijimo centras“.
„Ši konferencija, skirta Ukrainos diasporos stiprinimo klausimams, tampa dar vienu lietuvių ir ukrainiečių tautų bendrystės simboliu. Ukraina nėra viena – Lietuvos valstybė ir jos žmonės tvirtai remia Ukrainą ir visą ukrainiečių tautą“, – sveikindamas konferencijos dalyvius sakė viceministras E. Meilūnas.
E. Meilūnas pasidalijo Lietuvos diasporos politikos įgyvendinimo patirtimi, pažymėdamas, kad diasporos parama – didelė jėga ir atrama valstybei, o Lietuvos Vyriausybės skiriamas dėmesys diasporai duoda reikšmingų rezultatų.
„Rusijos agresija privertė savo namus palikti milijonus ukrainiečių. Dalis jų prieglobstį rado čia, Lietuvoje, todėl tvirtai tęsime paramos teikimą Ukrainai ne tik kaip solidarumo gestą, bet ir kaip panašios istorinės patirties liudytojai“, – sakė viceministras, primindamas, kad XX amžiuje dėl artėjančios Rusijos okupacijos daugybė lietuvių buvo priversti palikti savo tėvynę.
Lietuvos Respublikos Seimo narės ir Seimo ir Pasaulio lietuvių bendruomenės komisijos pirmininkės Dalios Asanavičiūtės inciatyva organizuotos konferencijos tikslas – pasidalinti su kolegomis iš Ukrainos Lietuvos diasporos politikos įgyvendinimo bei diasporos telkimo, įtraukimo į Lietuvos gyvenimą ir valstybės saugumo kūrimą patirtimi.
Konferencijoje dalyvavo Ukrainos Aukščiausios Rados delegacija, vadovaujama vicepirmininkės Olenos Kondratiuk, Lietuvos Seimo nariai, Ukrainos ambasados Lietuvoje ir Lietuvos ambasados Ukrainoje, Lietuvos ir Ukrainos valstybės institucijų ir diasporos organizacijų atstovai.
