Kovo 31 dieną Lietuvoje veiklą pradėjo Indijos ambasada. Apie sprendimą Lietuvoje atidaryti Indijos ambasadą Indijos Premjeras Narendra Modi Lietuvos diplomatijos vadovui pranešė jo vizito Delyje 2022 m. balandį metu.
„Džiaugiamės ir sveikiname šį sprendimą. Indija – įtakinga tarptautinės bendrijos narė ir svarbi Lietuvos ekonominė partnerė. Noriu tikėti, kad ambasados atidarymas padės aktyviau plėtoti ne tik politinius, bet ir ekonominius santykius“, – sakė užsienio reikalų ministras Gabrielius Landsbergis.
2022 m. Indija užėmė 36 vietą pagal prekybos apyvartą tarp 211 Lietuvos prekybos partnerių, 51 – pagal eksportą ir 28 – pagal importą. 2022 m. prekių apyvarta tarp dviejų šalių sudarė 269,9 mln. eurų.
Lietuva ir Indija diplomatinius santykius užmezgė 1992 m. balandžio 27 dieną.
Lietuvos ambasada Indijoje veikia nuo 2008 m.
