Šiandien, vasario 19, prieš prasidedant Europos Sąjungos užsienio reikalų ministrų tarybai, Lietuvos diplomatijos vadovas pasisakė pagalbos Ukrainai, sankcijų Rusijai ir kitais klausimais.
G. Landsbergis mano, kad Europos Sąjungos (ES) ruošiamas 13-asis sankcijų paketas Rusijai neatitinka realios saugumo situacijos poreikių ir siūlymas sankcionuoti kelis šimtus asmenų – per menkas.
„Paketą pavyks priimti, bet klausimas – kokį. Aš manau, kad mes vis dar galime tai padaryti, bet vykstanti techninė diskusija nėra adekvačiai prilyginta tai situacijai, kuri yra fronte. Ukrainiečiai yra palikti be ginkluotės, be šaudmenų, ypatingai sudėtingoje situacijoje, o mes kalbame, ar galime įtraukti kelis šimtus žmonių į papildomą sankcijų paketą. Tai svarbu, aš to neneigiu, bet tai neatitinka realijų“, – žurnalistams Briuselyje teigė G. Landsbergis.
Pasak Lietuvos diplomatijos vadovo, Vakarai privalo veikti jau dabar ir suteikti deramą paramą Ukrainai bei suskubti stiprinti savo pasirengimą atremti kylančius pavojus.
„Turėtume pripažinti, kad padėtis, kurioje Europa atsidūrė, nėra įprasta. Jei nepripažinsime šio fakto, galime atsidurti dar blogesnėse aplinkybėse. Pirmiausia, aišku, aš kalbu apie Ukrainą. Dvejus metus diskutavome, bandydami išsiaiškinti, kaip galėtume po truputį padėti Ukrainai, bet, deja, nesuformulavome strateginio tikslo, ko siekiame. Tai atvedė mus į situaciją, kuri negerėja nei Ukrainai, nei Vakarams. Mes turime pabusti šiai naujai realybei, suremti galvas, kad rastume sprendimų, kurie būtų kūrybiški ir reformuotų mūšio lauką“, – teigė G. Landsbergis.
