Rugpjūčio 24 dieną Jungtinių Tautų (JT) Saugumo Tarybos posėdyje, skirtame taikai ir saugumui Ukrainoje, Lietuvos nuolatinis atstovas JT ambasadorius Rytis Paulauskas, kalbėdamas Baltijos valstybių Estijos, Latvijos ir Lietuvos vardu, pabrėžė, kad Rusijos neteisėto karo prieš Ukrainą metu vykdomos tikslingos atakos prieš civilius gyventojus ir civilinę infrastruktūrą yra karo nusikaltimas.
„Šiandien Ukrainai švenčiant savo nepriklausomybės dieną, Rusijos agresija siekia nepriklausomybę sunaikinti. Kare ypač kenčia vaikai: šimtai žuvo, tūkstančiai buvo sužeisti, daug daugiau neteko šeimų ir draugų, negali lankyti mokyklos ar gauti tinkamos medicininės priežiūros. JT duomenimis nuo karo pradžios Ukrainoje buvo sunaikintos 262 mokymosi įstaigos ir dar 3019 buvo apgadintos. Už šiuos žiaurius veiksmus Rusija buvo įtraukta į JT Generalinio Sekretoriaus sąrašą šalių, vykdančių rimtus nusikaltimus prieš vaikus. Psichologinis šio karo traumos poveikis vaikams turės didelių pasekmių ir ateityje. Į Rusiją ir Baltarusiją priverstinai deportuotų, Rusijos piliečiais paverstų ir neteisėtai įvaikintų ukrainiečių vaikų padėtis nusipelno ypatingo mūsų dėmesio. Kartu su JT institucijomis turime užtikrinti jų repatriaciją ir nusikaltėlių atsakomybę. Tarptautinio baudžiamojo tribunolo išduoti arešto orderiai Rusijos prezidentui V. Putinui ir M. Lvovai-Belovai – reikšmingas žingsnis užtikrinant atsakomybę“, – sakoma bendrame Estijos, Latvijos ir Lietuvos pareiškime.
Pareiškime taip pat pažymėta, kad Rusijos agresyvus karas, įgalintas ir Baltarusijos, yra akivaizdus Jungtinių Tautų Chartijos pažeidimas. Pabrėžta, kad visa tarptautinė bendruomenė turi atsakomybę užtikrinti visišką nusikaltimus vykdančių asmenų atsakomybę, siekiant tvarios taikos, teisingumo aukų atžvilgiu ir užkardant tokių nusikaltimų atsinaujinimą ateityje.
