Į vienuolika šalies vandens telkinių išleista 3,1 mln. stiklinės stadijos europinių ungurių. Unguriai išleisti į Baltuosius Lakajus, Lūšius, Galvę, Paežerių Tauragną, Krokų Lanką ir Nemuno (nuo Kauno HE iki deltos), Minijos, Dubysos, Šventosios, Neries upes. Įžuvinime dalyvavo ir Žuvininkystės tarnybos prie Žemės ūkio ministerijos žuvivaisos specialistams talkino žemės ūkio ministras Kęstutis Navickas.
Stiklinės stadijos europinių ungurių įsigijimas sutapo su šių žuvų žvejybos sezono ties Anglijos ir Prancūzijos krantais pradžia. Kūčių išvakarėse specialiose saugiam žuvų transportavimui pritaikytose dėžėse unguriukai iš Prancūzijos buvo atskraidinti į Vilniaus oro uostą. Iš karto pradėti krovinio perkrovimo ir transportavimo į skirtingas ungurių įveisimo vietas darbai.
Atsižvelgiant į tai, kad dėl žiemiškų sąlygų nebuvo saugu įveisti visus vandens telkinius, kurie yra numatyti patvirtintame „Žuvų ir vėžių įveisimo į valstybinius vandens telkinius 2023 m. plane“, iš anksto buvo atliktas vandens telkinių monitoringas ir pasirinkti tie telkiniai, kuriuose saugu vykdyti ungurių įveisimo darbus.
Šiemet tai jau ne pirmas Lietuvos vandens telkinių įžuvinimas europiniais unguriais. Vasarą į 65 Lietuvos ežerus ir upes išleista daugiau kaip 1265 tūkst. ungurių jauniklių. Dalis jų ženklinti organiniais dažikliais, kad atliekant mokslinius tyrimus būtų galima įvertinti įveisimo efektyvumą, augimo tempą, sugautų užaugusių ungurių amžių. Iš viso 2011–2023 m. į Lietuvos vandens telkinius įveista daugiau kaip 13 mln. europinių ungurių.
„Europinių ungurių įveisimo“ projektas finansuojamas iš Europos jūrinių reikalų ir žuvininkystės fondo ir Lietuvos nacionalinio biudžeto lėšų pagal Lietuvos žuvininkystės sektoriaus 2014–2020 metų veiksmų programos pirmojo Sąjungos prioriteto „Ekologiškai tausios, efektyvaus išteklių naudojimo, inovacinės, konkurencingos ir žiniomis grindžiamos žvejybos skatinimas“ priemonės „Parama išsaugojimo priemonių rengimui ir įgyvendinimui“ veiklos sritį „Parama europinių ungurių išteklių valdymo planui Lietuvoje įgyvendinti“.
Pagrindinis projekto tikslas – tęsti jau pradėtus ungurių išteklių atkūrimo darbus ir taip gausinti europinių ungurių išteklius tiek Lietuvoje, tiek Europos Sąjungoje.
