Vidaus reikalų viceministras Arnoldas Abramavičius susitiko su Irako laikinuoju reikalų patikėtiniu Muqdad Algaldos ir aptarė geopolitines aktualijas bei esminius migracijos klausimus. Šalys sutarė toliau stiprinti bendradarbiavimą šioje srityje.
„Lukašenkos režimo organizuotos hibridinės atakos metu, dauguma neteisėtai į Lietuvą atvykusių migrantų buvo Irako piliečiai. Šioje itin sudėtingoje situacijoje Irakas įdėjo didžiules pastangas, palengvindamas savo piliečių grąžinimą. Nors tikimės, jog toks scenarijus niekada nebepasikartos, tačiau siekiame ir toliau glaudžiai bendradarbiauti migracijos klausimais“, – teigia viceministras.
Per migracijos krizę 2021 m. irakiečių skaičius Lietuvoje siekė 3014. Iš jų 830 buvo savanoriškai grąžinti į kilmės šalį. Tam pasitelktos įvairios skatinamosios priemonės, aktyvus Irako vyriausybės įsitraukimas, Europos sienų ir pakrančių apsaugos agentūros „Frontex“ pagalba.
2023 m. irakiečių Lietuvoje buvo 49, ir visi jie atvyko iš Latvijos antrinės migracijos keliu. Šiuo metu Užsieniečių registracijos centre gyvena 5 Irako piliečiai.
