Rugpjūčio 30 dieną užsienio reikalų viceministrė Jovita Neliupšienė susitiko su pirmojo vizito į Lietuvą atvykusia Jungtinių Tautų Vyriausiojo pabėgėlių reikalų komisaro (UNHCR) paskirta nauja UNHCR biuro vadove Šiaurės ir Baltijos šalims Annika Sandlund.
Viceministrė J. Neliupšienė pasveikino UNHCR atstovę A. Sandlund praėjus eiti atsakingas pareigas, išsakė Lietuvos paramą UNHCR veiklai ir patikino dėl Lietuvos kompetentingų institucijų tęstinio konstruktyvaus bendradarbiavimo su UNHCR. Savo ruožtu UNHCR atstovė padėkojo Lietuvai už puikų bendradarbiavimą su UNHCR.
Pokalbio metu aptarti Lietuvos politinės ir finansinės paramos UNHCR veiklai, pabėgėlių ir asmenų be pilietybės teisių apsaugos klausimai, migracijos instrumentalizacija, parama karo pabėgėliams iš Ukrainos, pasiruošimas gruodžio mėnesį Ženevoje vyksiančiam Globaliam pabėgėlių forumui, įskaitant Lietuvos įsipareigojimus šiame kontekste, ir kiti aktualūs klausimai.
Šio vizito metu UNHCR atstovės Šiaurės ir Baltijos šalims A. Sandlund vadovaujama delegacija taip pat susitinka su Vidaus reikalų, Socialinės apsaugos ir darbo ministerijų atstovais, Migracijos departamento ir Valstybės sienos apsaugos tarnybos vadovais. Vizito metu numatomas apsilankymas Pabėgėlių priėmimo centre Rukloje ir Užsieniečių registracijos centre Pabradėje.
Stokholme reziduojančio UNHCR atstovo Šiaurės ir Baltijos valstybėms (Danijai, Estijai, Islandijai, Latvijai, Lietuvai, Norvegijai, Suomijai ir Švedijai) biuras užtikrina sąveiką su šių valstybių valdžios ir valdymo institucijomis, nevyriausybinėmis organizacijomis ir pilietine visuomene, teikiant pagalbą ir apsaugą pabėgėliams, priverstiniu būdu perkeltiems asmenims ir asmenims be pilietybės.
