Gruodžio 8 d., penktadienį, 14–16 val. Švietimo, mokslo ir sporto ministerijoje (A. Volano g. 2, Vilnius) vyks Lietuvos švietimo ministrų diskusija, bus įteikti ministerijos garbės ženklai.
Diskusijoje apie švietimo istoriją, dabartį ir ateities strategijas dalyvaus ministras Gintautas Jakštas bei pareigas ėję ministrai: Darius Kuolys, Remigijus Motuzas, Roma Žakaitienė, Audronė Pitrėnienė, Algirdas Monkevičius, nuotoliu prisijungs Jurgita Petrauskienė.
Ministrai apžvelgs švietimo istoriją, prisimins, kokie didžiausi iššūkiai buvo prieš keletą dešimtmečių, aptars dabarties švietimo aktualijas ir galimas ateities strategijas.

Po diskusijos ministerijos Ovaliojoje salėje bus iškilmingai įteikti ministerijos garbės ženklai švietimui nusipelniusiems žmonėms. Jie teikiami kasmet. Šiemet jie skirti dr. Boguslavui Gruževskiui, Lietuvos socialinių mokslų centro direktoriui, Gražinai Pamparienei, buvusiai Joniškio vaikų lopšelio-darželio „Saulutė“ muzikos mokytojai metodininkei, Laimutei Onai Užkuraitienei, buvusiai ilgametei Vilniaus Balio Dvariono dešimtmetės muzikos mokyklos direktorei, ir Aidui Aldakauskui, Nacionalinės švietimo agentūros Kokybės vertinimo departamento direktoriui.
Šie renginiai vyksta minint Edukacinės komisijos 250 metų jubiliejų. 1773 metų spalio 14 dieną Vilniuje įsteigta Abiejų Tautų Respublikos švietimu besirūpinusi Edukacinė komisija laikoma pirmąja švietimo ministerija Europoje ir viena iš pirmųjų tokių įstaigų pasaulyje. Ji ėmėsi švietimo sistemos – nuo parapinės mokyklos iki universiteto – kūrimo darbų. Edukacinė komisija pradėjo novatorišką idėją – visuotinai privalomą visų luomų vaikų mokymą. Komisija įvedė gamtos ir tiksliųjų mokslų dėstymą, bendrojo ugdymo elementus sujungė su praktiniu žemės ūkio, amatų įgūdžių ugdymu, vietoj lotynų – gimtąją kalbą. Viena pirmųjų Europoje pradėjo rūpintis fiziniu lavinimu mokykloje – įvedė kūno kultūrą.
Renginių, skirtų Edukacinės komisijos jubiliejui paminėti, ciklas prasidėjo gruodžio 7 dieną Valdovų rūmuose tarptautine moksline konferencija „Lietuvos Didžioji Kunigaikštystė XVIII amžiuje. Pilietis. Šeima. Edukacija“.
