Gegužės 19 dieną užsienio reikalų viceministras E. Meilūnas susitiko su Lietuvoje viešinčiais JAV–Kinijos ekonomikos ir saugumo peržiūros komisijos nariais. Susitikimo metu aptarta Lietuvos patirtis įveikiant politiškai motyvuotą Kinijos ekonominį spaudimą, vykdant strateginę diversifikaciją ir atveriant naujas rinkas Lietuvos verslui. Pokalbio metu taip buvo pristatytos Europos Sąjungos iniciatyvos, skirtos mažinti priklausomybę nuo autoritarinių valstybių strateginiuose ekonomikos sektoriuose ir stiprinti vidaus rinkos atsparumą.
Viceministras susitikimo metu pabrėžė transatlantinio bendradarbiavimo svarbą įveikiant ekonominį spaudimą. „Tas pačias vertybes puoselėjančių valstybių bendradarbiavimo gilinimas ir solidarumas yra geriausias atsakas į autokratinių režimų siekius pakeisti taisyklėmis grindžiamą tvarką pasaulyje“ – sakė E. Meilūnas.
JAV–Kinijos komisiją 2000 metais įsteigė JAV Kongresas. Komisija yra įgaliota teikti JAV Kongresui metinę ataskaitą apie JAV ir Kinijos dvišalių prekybos ir ekonominių santykių poveikį nacionaliniam saugumui bei rekomendacijas dėl atitinkamų teisėkūros veiksmų.
