Spalio 13 dieną Jungtinių Tautų (JT) Žmogaus teisių taryba baigė penkias savaites trukusią 54-ąją sesiją, kurioje vienas svarbiausių sprendimų buvo rezoliucija dėl nuolat stipriai blogėjančios žmogaus teisių padėties Rusijos Federacijoje.
„Žmogaus teisių taryba atsižvelgdama į smarkiai blogėjančią žmogaus teisių padėtį Rusijoje nusprendė dar metus stebėti situaciją ir rinkti įrodymus apie Rusijos vykdomus žmogaus teisių pažeidimus. Tai yra labai svarbus žingsnis siekiant užtikrinti Rusijos atsakomybę už šiuos pažeidimus“ – teigė nuolatinis Lietuvos atstovas Ženevoje ambasadorius Darius Staniulis.
Rusijos agresijos prieš Ukrainą klausimas taip pat keltas diskusijoje su Nepriklausoma tarptautine tyrimų komisija Ukrainai (angl. Commission of Inquiry on Ukraine, CoI), kurioje Lietuvos užsienio reikalų ministras Šiaurės-Baltijos valstybių vardu perskaitė bendrą pareiškimą (rugsėjo 25 dieną). Šios sesijos metu taip pat buvo diskutuojama įvairiais kitais žmogaus teisių klausimais, įskaitant dėl sudėtingos žmogaus teisių padėties Baltarusijoje, Afganistane, Burundyje. Įsteigta nauja faktų tyrimų komisija žmogaus teisių padėčiai Sudane stebėti, nuspręsta didinti bendradarbiavimą su Karibų šalimis, ten įsteigiant JT Vyriausiojo žmogaus teisių komisaro regioninį biurą. Taip pat vyko atskiros diskusijos, įskaitant dėl jaunimo dalyvavimo aplinkosaugos klausimų sprendime ir dėl patyčių prieš vaikus skaitmeninėje erdvėje, kuriose dalyvavo ir pasisakė Lietuvos jaunimo atstovai. Lietuva iniciavo ir parengė bendrąjį pasisakymą dėl jaunimo dalyvavimo sprendimų priėmime, prie kurio prisijungė net 54 valstybės.
Lietuvos atstovai pasisakė dėl Lietuvos teisėjų Sausio 13-osios byloje apsaugos, žmogaus teisių padėties Afganistane, priverstinių dingimų ir neteisėtų sulaikymų problematikos bei kitais klausimais. Taip pat aktyviai dalyvavo rengiant visas 36 Žmogaus teisių tarybos 54-osios sesijos rezoliucijas. Dialoge dėl techninės paramos Sakartvelui, Lietuva akcentavo sudėtingą žmogaus teisių padėtį Rusijos laikinai okupuotose teritorijose bei ragino Rusiją suteikti į jas prieigą tarptautiniams stebėjimo mechanizmams.
Lietuva, kartu su Jungtinių Tautų biuru, Australija, Jungtiniais Arabų Emyratais ir Alžyru, organizavo Tarptautinės gestų kalbų dienos minėjimo renginį (rugsėjo 23 dieną). Renginio atidarymo metu Lietuvos ambasadorius D. Staniulis prisistatė ir svečius pasveikino gestų kalba.
Lietuva šiuo metu yra pilnateisė JT Žmogaus teisių tarybos – vienos pagrindinių JT institucijų, sudarytos iš 47 valstybių, narė. Žmogaus teisių taryba prisideda prie žmogaus teisių stiprinimo visame pasaulyje, stebi valstybių progresą ginant pamatines žmogaus laisves ir reaguoja į šių pažeidimus bei teikia rekomendacijas. Lietuva savo kadenciją Žmogaus teisių taryboje tęs iki 2024 metų pabaigos.
