Lietuva baigė vienerius metus trukusį pirmininkavimą regioniniam BALTFISH forumui, vienijančiam aplink Baltijos jūrą esančių ES valstybių narių už žuvininkystę atsakingas institucijas. Pirmininkavimą iš Lietuvos nuo liepos 1 d. perima Lenkija.
Lietuvos pirmininkavimo BALTFISH metu prioritetas buvo teikiamas 2023 m. žvejybos galimybių Baltijos jūroje klausimui. Siekiant suderinti skirtingas valstybių narių pozicijas, surengtas ne vienas dvišalis susitikimas ir pirmą kartą po 7 metų pasiektas Baltijos jūros regiono valstybių kompromisas dėl žvejybos galimybių. Juo remiantis, Žemės ūkio ir žuvininkystės taryboje pasiektas politinis susitarimas.
Pirmininkavimo metu Lietuva taip pat inicijavo diskusijas dėl Europos Komisijos parengto Žuvininkystės politikos dokumentų rinkinio, suderino ir pateikė rekomendacijas dėl žvejybos reguliavimo Baltijos jūroje priemonių.
Valstybės narės ir Europos Komisija Lietuvos pirmininkavimo BALTFISH rezultatus įvertino labai palankiai.
BALTFISH forumas buvo įsteigtas atsižvelgiant į ES Bendrosios žuvininkystės politikos regionalizavimo principą, siekiant stiprinti valstybių narių institucijų bendradarbiavimą ir sukurti forumą diskusijoms apie visoms regiono šalims aktualius žuvininkystės valdymo klausimus.
BALTFISH vienija 8 valstybes nares: Švediją, Suomiją, Estiją, Latviją, Lietuvą, Lenkiją, Vokietiją ir Daniją. Forumo veiklai vienerius metus – nuo liepos iki liepos – paeiliui pirmininkauja vis kita valstybė narė.
