Birželio 19 dieną Ženevoje prasideda keturias savaites truksianti 53-ioji Jungtinių Tautų (JT) Žmogaus teisių tarybos (ŽTT), kurios nare yra Lietuva, sesija. Svarbiausiais Lietuvos prioritetais šią sesiją bus Rusijos agresijos prieš Ukrainą ir jos globalių pasekmių, nuolat blogėjančios žmogaus teisių padėties Baltarusijoje ir Rusijoje kėlimas, atsakomybės už visus žmogaus teisių ir tarptautinės teisės pažeidimus, įskaitant agresijos nusikaltimą, siekis.
Sesijos metu Lietuva surengs du renginius: nuomonės ir išraiškos laivės suvaržymų Baltarusijoje bei prieinamo informacijos pateikimo, įskaitant asmenims su negalia, temomis.
Lietuva taip pat skirs dėmesį žmogaus teisių padėčiai Irane, Afganistane, Sudane, Eritrėjoje, Venesueloje ir kitose šalyse. Teminiais klausimais Lietuva akcentuos moterų ir mergaičių teisių, neįgaliųjų teisių, nuomonės ir išraiškos laisvės, taikių susirinkimų ir asociacijų laisvės, žmogaus teisių gynėjų apsaugos, klimato kaitos, teisėjų nepriklausomumo, teisės į švietimą svarbą. Iš viso sesijos metu vyks 35 interaktyvieji dialogai bei 5 pranešėjų diskusijos.
Lietuva aktyviai įsitrauks derinant Europos Sąjungos, Šiaurės ir Baltijos šalių, Liublino trikampio šalių pozicijas ir bendrus pasisakymus šioje sesijoje, prisijungs prie kitų šalių rengiamų bendrųjų pareiškimų, dalyvaus derybose dėl beveik trisdešimties rezoliucijų, iš kurių dvi teiks Europos Sąjunga: dėl žmogaus teisių padėties Baltarusijoje ir Eritrėjoje.
Žmogaus teisių taryba yra JT sistemos tarpvyriausybinė institucija, kurią sudaro 47 valstybės narės. Tarybą 2006 metų kovo 15 dieną įsteigė JT Generalinė Asamblėja, jos pagrindinis tikslas – aptarti žmogaus teisių padėtį šalyse ir teminius klausimus bei teikti dėl jų rekomendacijas. Lietuva yra JT Žmogaus teisių tarybos narė iki 2024-ųjų metų pabaigos.
