Kad vairuotojai spėtų laiku pasitikrinti sveikatą, o gydymo įstaigos susitvarkytų su išaugusiais pacientų srautais, iki 2025 m. sausio 1 d. atidėtas įstatymo nuostatos, kuri susieja vairuotojo pažymėjimo galiojimą su vairuotojo medicininės pažymos galiojimu, įsigaliojimas. Tokiam siūlymui gruodžio 21 d. pritarė Seimas.
Nuo 2024 m. sausio 1 d. turėjo įsigalioti Saugaus eismo automobilių keliais įstatymo pataisa, kuri susieja vairuotojo pažymėjimo galiojimo trukmę su vairuotojo medicininės pažymos galiojimu. Tai reiškia, kad pasibaigus medicininės pažymos galiojimui nustoja galioti ir vairuotojo pažymėjimas, nepaisant ant jo nurodytos galiojimo datos. Pasitikrinus sveikatą, pažymėjimo galiojimas bus automatiškai atnaujinamas.
Kelių transporto priemonių vairuotojų registro duomenimis, praėjusių metų pabaigoje buvo apie 245 tūkst. asmenų, neturinčių galiojančios vairuotojo sveikatos patikrinimo medicinos pažymos, t. y. šių asmenų turimi vairuotojo pažymėjimai nuo 2024 m. sausio 1 d. būtų paskelbti negaliojančiais, ir šie asmenys nebūtų galėję dalyvauti viešajame eisme. Atidėjus naujos tvarkos įsigaliojimą metams, vairuotojai, kurių medicininė pažyma yra pasibaigusi, turės laiko iš naujo pasitikrinti sveikatą iki 2025 m. sausio 1 d.
