Birželio 28-29 dienomis Užsienio reikalų viceministras Egidijus Meilūnas Atėnuose susitiko su Graikijos Ministro Pirmininko patarėju nacionalinio saugumo klausimais Thanassis Dokos, Graikijos užsienio reikalų ministerijos Generaliniu sekretoriumi Theocharis Lalakos bei viceministru Kostas Fragkogiannis. Taip pat su Graikijos parlamento nariu Anastasios Chatzivasileiou bei gynybos ministerijos politikos direktoriumi Konstantinos Balomenos. Susitikimų metu buvo aptartas pasirengimas liepos 11-12 dienomis Vilniuje vyksiančio NATO viršūnių susitikimui, tolesnė parama Ukrainai ir jos narystei NATO bei aljanso rytinio flango stiprinimas.
Viceministras susitikimų metu pažymėjo, kad siekiant atgrasyti Rusiją nuo agresyvių veiksmų regione būtina dislokuoti papildomas sąjungininkų pajėgas ir ginkluotę Lietuvoje bei kitose Baltijos šalyse, stiprinti oro gynybą. E. Meilūnas taip pat pabrėžė būtinybę nustatyti aiškų kelią Ukrainos narystei NATO. „Ukrainos narystė NATO būtina ilgalaikiam Europos saugumo užtikrinimui“, – sakė viceministras.
Užsienio reikalų viceministras Egidijus Meilūnas vizito Atėnuose metu taip pat dalyvavo Lietuvos Respublikos ir Jungtinės Karalystės ambasadų Atėnuose bei Graikijos tarptautinių santykių instituto surengtame seminare „Vilniaus NATO viršūnių susitikimas ir Europos saugumo ateitis“. Šioje diskusijoje taip pat dalyvavo Victoria Billing, JK Užsienio reikalų ofiso direktorė Europai, Alexandre Moneger, NATO Gynybos politikos ir planavimo skyriaus vadovas bei prof. Margarita Šešelgytė.
Pokalbiuose su Graikijos pareigūnais Lietuvos užsienio reikalų ministerijos viceministras taip pat aptarė galimybes plėsti dvišalį Lietuvos ir Graikijos ekonominį bendradarbiavimą.
