Savaitgalį baigėsi Rygoje vykusi Europos praktinė gamtos mokslų olimpiada, kurioje Lietuvai atstovavusios dvi mokinių komandos apdovanotos sidabro medaliais.
Sidabro medaliais pasipuošė 6 mokiniai iš skirtingų Lietuvos mokyklų: Augustas Ukvalbergas (Kauno technologijos universiteto gimnazija, mokyt. Tomas Kivaras); Justas Miliauskas (Vilniaus licėjus, mokyt. Rasa Žemaitaitienė); Titas Balčiūnas (Vilniaus jėzuitų gimnazija, mokyt. Ala Vaicekauskienė); Artūras Makselis (Varėnos „Ąžuolo“ gimnazija, mokyt. Vida Stonienė); Martynas Mykolas Barzda (Utenos Adolfo Šapokos gimnazija, mokyt. Stasys Kirdeikis); Pijus Tydmanas (Šiaulių Juliaus Janonio gimnazija, mokyt. Genovaitė Liepinia).
Lietuvos komandoms vadovavo Vilniaus universiteto STEAM ugdymo programų vadovas dr. Paulius Lukas Tamošiūnas, Kauno technologijos universiteto Cheminės technologijos fakulteto dekanas prof. dr. Kęstutis Baltakys ir Kauno technologijos universiteto gimnazijos direktorius Tomas Kivaras.
Komandos olimpiadoje turėjo atlikti dvi praktines užduotis-eksperimentus.
Pirmoji užduotis – išnagrinėti, kas žmogaus kūnui leidžia dainuoti ir šokti: kaip susidaro garsas, kaip organizmas išgauna energijos iš įvairių maisto produktų, kaip dirba įvairūs raumenys.
Atliekant antrąją užduotį teko pasitelkti žinias apie augalų auginimo išmaniuosiuose šiltnamiuose principus. Mokiniai turėjo įsivaizduoti, kad vietos atliekų tvarkymo įmonė paprašė jų komandos padėti suprojektuoti išmanųjį šiltnamį ir sukurti hidroponinę sistemą agurkams auginti pačiu efektyviausiu būdu.
Lietuvos atstovai taip pat apdovanoti specialiu rėmėjų prizu už geriausiai atliktas užduotis zoologijos sode. Mokiniai turėjo atlikti keletą įvairių užduočių: pavyzdžiui, nustatyti gyvatės ilgį, tirti gyvūnų kailio plauko ar paukščių plunksnos storį, taikant difrakcijos metodą.
Lietuvos atstovai Europos praktinėje gamtos mokslų olimpiadoje dalyvauja nuo 2007 metų. Olimpiada pradėta organizuoti 2003 metais, anksčiau ji vadinosi Europos sąjungos gamtos mokslų olimpiada.
Lietuvos komandos šioje olimpiadoje aukso medalius pelnė 4 kartus, paskutinį kartą – 2021 metais.
